Summer is just around the corner, and as much as we all love the sunshine (I definitely do!) we need to make sure we are prioritising our skin health over our tanning!
Unfortunately tanning comes with a price - in the form of pigmentation, sun damage and increased risk of skin cancers - all of which can be difficult and lengthy to treat.

The image to your right is a famous study completed on twins - one twin lives in an area of extreme sun exposure, the other twin does not - can you guess which one is which?!
We can see obvious signs of aging, areas of pigmentation which is caused by excess melanin production from harmful UV rays, loss of volume, laxity and structure.
The tips to protect your skin during extreme sun exposure are simple and effective, here's my top 5 PREVENTATIVE tips:
SPF 50
Not in primer, not in make-up
SPF 50 made specifically for the face & neck, making sure it is EU approved and offers UVA of at least 4 stars (protection against radiation) & UVB (protection against direct sun rays which cause aging and inflammation/burning)
Make sure the sunscreen is not past expiry date, you should purchase a new sunscreen every year
Reapply at least twice daily and every 2 hours when in direct sunlight, apply at least 30 minutes before going out in the sun
Cover yourself!
Hats, sun shield, sun visor, sunglasses (CE marked and approved for EU use)
Avoid direct sunlight between the hours of 11am-3pm - where the sun's rays are the most extreme
Stay well hydrated, hydration is key to minimizing risk of sun stroke and ensuring your skin does not become dehydrated, dry or irritated
Last but not least, an important one - Use a vitamin-C of 10-20% serum in the morning.
UV rays produce something called free radicals, vitamin C helps to combat these free radicals by preventing oxidate stress and so photodamage and aging
It provides double protection when used alongside SPF
It is a powerful antioxidant and helps t promote collagen synthesis when cells are damaged by UV rays
To protect your skin, book in for a skin analysis to assess your skin's current health, what you can do to protect it and options for treatments if signs of photodamage are already showing.
